Early family life.
Amrita Rao born on June 7, 1981 in Mumbai to a Mangalore based conservative Saraswat Brahmin family. Model Preeta Rao is her identical twin. Her father Deepak Rao owns an Advertising Agency and her mother is hose wife.
Amrita completed her high school studies at Convent Girls High School , Mumbai and later enrolled in Sophia College to pursue a degree in psychology.
While studying in Sophia College , Amrita auditioned for an advertisement for Fairever Face Cream. Her performance in Cadbury’s Perk Karwa Chaut ad and the Bru Coffee advertisement helped her receive offers from film directors in Bollywood.
Career.
Amrita Rao made her debut in Bollywood in the year 2002 with the film Ab Ke Baras. Next year she acted in Ishq Vishk, in which she portrayed Payal.
In 2004, her movie Masti, main Hoon Na and Deewar were released. These movies gives name and fame to her.
She appeared in Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi and Shikhar in the year of 2005.
Rao performed in Sooraj R. Barjatya’s Vivah in the year of 2006, with Shahid Kapoor. In this movie, Vivah was a universal success and her performance was well appreciated by critics for which she received a Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award.
In 2006 Amrita entered Tollywood also. She appeared in Athidhi, alongside Mahesh Babu.
In 2008 she performed in My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves and Welcome to Sajjanpur.
In the year of 2009 she appeared in Victory and Shortkut.
